Polar Code Courses

We offer basic and advanced Polar Code courses for Officers and operators. The course covers all training requirements in the IMO Polar Code, which is mandatory as of 1 July 2018. All courses are within IMO STCW, Table A-V/4-1 for Basic and Table A-V/4-2 for Advanced.

The course

This course is an STCW course approved for the requirements in the new Polar Code requirements in force from 1 July 2018. The Basic & Advanced Course covers all training requirements in the IMO Polar Code, which were mandatory as of 1 July 2018. This courses meets IMO STCW 2010, Table A-V/4-2. The course is taught by highly professional and experienced mariners, Icebreaker Masters experienced in Arctic/Antarctic ice and Masters/Chief Enginers of ice-classed cargo ships.

2 weeks prior to the course start date, if minimum enrollment is not met the course is subjected to be canceled.

Target group

This course is geared to Masters, Chief Mates, and Officers in charge of a navigational watch on board ships operating in polar waters and for shore staff that would like to have more understanding about the trade area for Polar waters.

Certification

After successfully passing the test, trainees will obtain an STCW Polar Code Basic and/or Advanced certificate issued by the Swedish Maritime Administration, which is recognized by all flag states. Mariners will satisfy the training requirements of IMO STCW, Table A-V/4-1 for Basic and Table A-V/4-2 for Advanced Polar Code.

Pre-Assessment and PWOM are mandatory for Vessels in Polar waters, this manual will be stamped by class and we will help you all way until it is stamped by class.

Pre-assessment is almost same as GAP analysis. Depending on the size of the vessel/Yacht it will take approx. 1 day of  inspection onboard and one more day to complete.

PWOM(Polar Water Operation Manual) Collect information, drawings and discussion with the crew can be done at the same time as Pre-assessment and then there will only be one trip to the ship.

 

16 hour online web-based course covering basic requirements within IMO STCW, Table A-V/4-1 and SMA 2011:116.

These courses are for transit in ice, seismic operations, drilling operations, ice management and iceberg towing.
This course is mostly for crews and officers heading into ice for the first time, or for anyone who wants more understanding regarding ice characteristics and manoeuvring in first year ice.

Consists of self-study at home, hotel or onboard then it is 1 day in classroom. Course covering basic requirements within IMO STCW, Table A-V/4-1 and SMA 2011:116.

We run only two(2) Basic refresh every year, one in March/April and one in Sep/October.

Polar Code Refresh Advanced course is the same only one in March/April and one in Sep/October. Maximum participants on the refresh courses is only 15.
